Dhanya Balakrishna is an Indian actress who has appeared in Telugu and Tamil films. After making her debut in A. R. Murugadoss's 7aum Arivu (2011), she has appeared in ventures including Gautham Menon's Neethaane En Ponvasantham and Atlee's Raja Rani.

Career

Dhanya Balakrishna began her acting career, with performances in theatre, before being signed up to play a supporting role in A. R. Murugadoss's 7aum Arivu (2011), where she played a scientist alongside Suriya and Shruti Haasan. She was next seen in two bilingual projects, portraying supporting roles - Balaji Mohan's Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi and then Gautham Menon's Neethaane En Ponvasantham.

However, following the aftermath of the Chennai Super Kings entering the play-off of the 2012 Indian Premier League, Dhanya Balakrishna took to Twitter to vent her frustration at the elimination of the team she had supported, Royal Challengers Bangalore. Referring to the long standing Kaveri River water dispute, she tweeted an insult directed at Chennai and subsequently faced backlash on social media for her comments. Dhanya consequently noted that she had quit the Tamil film industry and would return the advance of a film she had signed fearing tension.

She however made a comeback portraying supporting roles in the 2013 Telugu film Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu as a girl who proposes to the character played by Mahesh Babu; while in Raja Rani, she was seen as Nivetha, a friend of Nayantara's character. Her first venture in a leading role, the Telugu film Chinni Chinni Aasa (2013) was released in November 2013, while other projects, Chandamama Lo Amrutham and Second Hand, are in production.
